Minutes for 2005-03-04 transport teleconference Attending: Larry Dunn Yunhong Gu Steven Senger Stanislav Shalunov Martin Swany Lisong Xu Call started at 12:04PM US/Eastern. Action items from last call: 1. Stanislav to add a milestone to the Charter for December 2005 to ``update milestones'' and submit the charter for review by the WG panel. [Done.] Submitted, haven't heard back yet. 2. Larry to review current draft to ensure all references to the deleted appendix are removed. [Done.] Difficult to say if the 1/p things are overstated now with the history of having an appendix, but the immediate references are all gone. 3. Group agreed to meet biweekly in the future; because of a conflict on March 11, the group agreed to meet on March 4 and biweekly after that date. 4. Steven will submit a draft by the middle of next week for group feedback (via the mailing list); he will incorporate changes and generate another draft by the next call. [Done. Changes: error recording.] Do we want to expose the use of TSC for timing? That in itself should be handled by a separate library. 5. Group to discuss name / value of the tool within the API (tied to project name). [Continued. On hold.] 6. Gu will collect his 'gotchas' on programming with Windows. 7. Steven will collect his 'gotchas' on programming with Windows. 8. Matt will pursue a contact at Microsoft to help with Windows porting. [Done.] 9. Stanislav will pursue a contact at Microsoft to help with Windows porting. [Blocking on response from Microsoft Research in Redmond. If negative, could pursue a lead with Microsoft Asia.] Action items for next call: * Stanislav will pursue Internet2 WG status. * Steven to release a new version of the API document. [ETA: 2005-03-18.] - x_sockerror(LAST_ERROR) for library-specific errors of x_select(). - Statistics include availability of data. - x_socket() to include a last argument of (X_SOCKET *) type for applications that want to manage memory allocation or avoid malloc(); can be NULL, in which case the library will malloc(). - Max library datagram size can be large; e.g., an unsigned 32-bit quantity. - A flag to tell the library whether to set DF or use PMTUD (for performance reasons, it might make sense to force local IP fragmentation so that the number of context switches is reduced). - A way to configure underlying send() size (Gu: Windows performance improves when send() size is 1024 bytes). * Gu will collect his ``gotchas'' on programming with Windows.
